Microsoft zufolge Können die Anwender nach Geschäften, Restaurants oder Tankstellen suchen, die auf der Karte angezeigt werden. Ein rund 30-minütiges Microsoft-Video, das die Features von "MSN Virtual Earth" zeigt, steht zum Download bereit. Im Gegensatz zu den Microsoft-Plänen, steht die Freeware "Google Earth" bereits seit einiger Zeit zum Download bereit. Die Software bietet Satelliten- und Luftaufnahmen und liefert zusammen mit Erhebungsdaten und Overlayinformationen von Städten 3D-Karten von vielen Bereichen der Erde.
